After years of overgrowth our goal was to re-establish character to the neglected back yard pool area without altering the existing fence lines.Challenges existed due to the trunk of a large pine tree which was too precarious to fully remove due to its proximity to the pool. Many overgrown plants, trees and evergreens were removed to rejuvenate the area. We re-purposed tons of the existing river rock by sculpting a meandering, dry riverbed that ran through the area. Great attention to detail produced a convincing and natural flow. Several types of ornamental grasses added texture, movement and colour, while select dwarf evergreens and flowering perennials completed the overall look. Garden art enhanced the peacefulness with the inclusion of a natural granite Inukshuk on top of where the tree trunk remained. A focal point of colour and form was achieved with the Cut leaf Japanese Maple. Additionally the utility shed was enlarged for practical purposes as well as painted and re-shingled to blend more harmoniously with the house and gardens.
