Urban Front Yard
BEFORE
Active Toronto homeowners wanted to transform their front yard from basic lawn to a more attractive low-maintenance perennial garden with year round interest.
Designs were developed that incorporates his love of grasses, her love of perennial flowers and their combined interest in natural rock features.
Additional challenges that needed to be addressed included the unsightly light pole, parking pad to the immediate left and snow removal.

Dirt Girl Landscaping combines photography and 2D landscape design elements to produce a remarkably realistic look, taking out the guesswork for homeowners.  Plant selection is understood much more effectively and decisions can be made easily.

The final design was a complementary blend of both personalities and the homeowners were extremely pleased with the transformation.

The dry riverbed running through the front provided the feature element. The larger, natural moss rocks added depth and additional focal points to this small space. Various ornamental grasses added movement, height and colour to the landscape. Those combined with dwarf size evergreens and flowering perennials brought this unique urban yard to life. A lush Trump Vine grows vigorously on the utility pole adding striking orange blooms and welcome camouflage.

Finally a contemporary pattern of stepping stones lines the parking pad and functions ideally for foot traffic and snow load. The black mulch adds a striking contrast and practicality. It reduces weeds, erosion and conserves moisture necessary for plant life- reducing water usage.
